Products on Display Address Today’s Real-World Delivery and Quality Challenges such as 3G-SDI, QoE, Audio Loudness, Color Gamut, 3D and More…

BEAVERTON, Ore., August 24, 2010 – Tektronix, the market leader in broadcast video test, monitoring and analysis solutions, announced today that the company will feature a wide range of new and enhanced products and solutions at IBC 2010, September 10-14 (Hall 8, Stand C75). Highlights for this year’s show include industry leading test and measurement solutions for 3G-SDI monitoring, Audio Loudness and file-based video as well as new software tools which support QoE artifact detection for monitoring off-air broadcasts and end-to-end troubleshooting of digital video services for cable operators. On the stand, Tektronix will also be showcasing its new Sentry® digital content monitoring solution which allows users to monitor Video and Audio Quality of Experience on hundreds of channels simultaneously. For customers interested in testing for 3D, Tektronix will also be running 3D technology demonstrations throughout the show.

“At Tektronix we are committed to providing our customers with the tools they really need to solve today’s real-world challenges,” said Eben Jenkins, general manager of the Video Product Line at Tektronix. “The products on display at our stand this year include new tools for addressing emerging issues such as Audio Loudness monitoring, extensive Quality of Experience testing and new technologies for ensuring high quality 3D footage creation.”

New Mixed Signals Products from Tektronix Offer Real-Time QoE Monitoring of Digital Content
During IBC, Tektronix will also be showcasing products from its new Video Network Monitoring group (formerly Mixed Signals prior to its acquisition) which offer broadcasters and other video service providers the leading solution for digital content monitoring. These real-time monitoring solutions generate historical reports with up to 60 days of information and detect intermittent and critical problems that are often missed by other monitoring tools (including temporary loss of audio/video services, audio silence, video freeze, tiling, macro blocking, pixilation, slow channel changing, and set-top box application errors).

Highlights on the Tektronix stand this year include:
•	The WFM8000 and WVR8000 Series high performance SD/HD/3G-SDI Waveform Monitors and Rasterizers which provide real-time, automated 3G-SDI Eye pattern display and jitter measurements to help broadcasters and network operators effectively diagnose signal problems and help equipment designers and manufacturers reduce time to market for new 3G-SDI products. The WFM/WVR8000 Series also feature the new Luma Qualified Vector (LQVTM) and Spearhead displays which help colorists and editors make precise color adjustments and enhancements, and SyncVu, which allows users to display the left-eye and right-eye images of 3D content in a synchronized viewing mode.
	New Audio Loudness Capabilities on the WFM6000/7000/8000 and WVR6000/7000/8000 Series. The new Audio Loudness firmware and software upgrades adhere to the ATSC A/85 Recommendation and ITU-R BS.1770-1/1771 specifications and include capabilities such as an Audio Loudness Meter, an Audio Loudness Session Display, and the industry’s first Loudness monitoring of Dolby Digital Plus audio, among others (see separate press release).
•	New VQS1000 Video Quality software for detecting QoE video impairments like stuck, black, macro-blocking and blocky compression artifacts. This software can monitor impairments in real time when used together with the MTM400A, RFM300, IPM400A, and QAM400A Digital TV network probes. VQS1000 can also be used to analyze any Transport Stream file for offline analysis of QoE video impairments.
•	Cerify® SW (Software), which supports all of the formats and standards supported by Cerify®, and facilitates third-party integration using the CeriTalk API. Recent upgrades to Cerify SW include added analysis support for AVC Intra files, as well as new Audio Loudness tests to meet the ITU-R BS.1770 standard. In addition, the new Cerify Windows Enterprise Solution enables many servers to act as one, offering the flexibility of deploying large Cerify clusters that can process hundreds of files simultaneously while allowing the operational simplicity of provisioning the cluster as if it was one single Cerify unit.

•	The Tektronix TG700 Sync Pulse Generator with the GPS7 Module, which now provides a user-selectable genlock function in either a master or slave configuration. This is useful for Outside Broadcast Applications that involve multiple trucks, as a TG700 within a truck can now easily be set-up as a master for one production and a slave for the next.

IBC Technology Demonstration – Testing for 3D
Tektronix has also announced that it will be running 3D technology demonstrations throughout the show this year. These demonstrations will show how Tektronix equipment can be used to ensure synchronization of left- and right-eye video signals:
•	The first demonstration will highlight 3D test signals generated as left-eye and right-eye images from the TG700 Multiformat Video Generator along with the new SyncVu display on the WFM8000 and WVR8000 Series, which provides synchronized views of the left two tiles and right two tiles of the four tile display. This allows the user to quickly configure the measurement displays to show the left-eye and right-eye views of the signals in the simultaneous mode. Alternatively the user can combine the two HD-SDI signals using the Dual Link capabilities of the instrument to measure disparity of the left- and right-eye in the waveform and picture displays.
•	The second demonstration will showcase a 3D extension to the VQS1000 Video Quality Software application for measuring single-ended, objective video quality measurements. This includes a 3D version of the picture display showing superimposed left and right eye edges and a Perceived Depth Distribution histogram that indicates the depth information for the video stream.

Tektronix Honored with Two Industry Award Finalist Status Nominations

Sentry Recognized for Upgraded Audio Level Monitoring Capabilities

BEAVERTON, Ore., Aug. 18, 2010 – Tektronix, the leading provider of digital content monitoring solutions, today announced that its Sentry® digital content monitoring solution, part of its Mixed Signals family of products, is one of only 10 products selected as a 2010 IABM Design Awards Candidate in this year’s IABM Awards for Design & Innovation. This esteemed awards program is held annually at the IBC tradeshow to recognize products and solutions that tangibly aid the progression of the broadcast and media technology industries. Sentry was selected as a candidate out of a pool of more than 80 nominated products and winners will be announced at IBC on September 11, 2010.

Sentry was recognized in this year’s IABM Design Awards for its upgraded audio level monitoring capability, which enables video service providers worldwide to identify audio volume issues in programming and commercials. With Sentry’s advanced monitoring capabilities, service providers now have the tools to quickly fix the dramatic volume changes that have annoyed viewers for years and that are now subject to Government regulatory compliance requirements.

Current solutions for measuring volume issues can only monitor one or two channels, making them far too costly to purchase and deploy for multi-channel service providers. Sentry’s unique ability to continually monitor hundreds of channels simultaneously makes it the ideal solution for cable, satellite, telecom and other multi-channel service providers to measure and identify overly loud commercials. The key to Sentry’s upgraded loudness monitoring capabilities is its support for the ITU-R BS.1770 audio specification.

“Being one of only 10 products selected as a candidate for the IABM award reinforces how seriously the broadcast industry takes the loudness issues that have plagued viewers for years,” said Eric Conley, Vice President, Video Network Monitoring, Tektronix. “This recognition for Sentry is the latest in a series of awards honoring its advanced audio level monitoring capabilities. With Sentry, service providers have the tools they need to ensure flawless video delivery, helping to both gain and retain subscribers.”

About the Sentry Monitoring Solution

Sentry is a comprehensive content monitoring solution for cable, telecom, IPTV and other video service providers. Sentry enables the early detection, diagnosis and repair of video and audio errors (i.e., video freeze, macro-blocking, loss of audio, etc.) whenever or wherever they occur in the network, so service providers can deliver services with excellent quality, thus ensuring an optimal quality of experience (QoE) for subscribers. Sentry accomplishes this through its unique combination of unprecedented visibility into network anomalies at the IP and MPEG layers, scalability to monitor every program in the network and its real-time, 24/7 operation. Sentry is proven in deployments with service providers worldwide, including nine of the top 10 U.S. cable operators.

Sentry Recognized in Top Monitoring or Network Management Solution Category

BEAVERTON, Ore., Aug. 11, 2010 – Tektronix, the leading provider of digital content monitoring solutions, today announced that its Sentry® digital content monitoring solution, part of its Mixed Signals family of products, is a finalist in this year’s Cable & Satellite International magazine’s Product of the Year Awards. The CSI Awards, which will be presented at the IBC tradeshow in Amsterdam in September, recognize technical excellence and innovation in the cable, satellite, terrestrial broadcasting and IPTV industries.

Sentry was shortlisted as a finalist in the “Best Monitoring or Network Management Solution” category in recognition of its new loudness monitoring capabilities with its support for the ITU-R BS.1770 audio specification. Along with the broad array of Quality of Experience (QoE) measurements provided by Sentry, the new capabilities enable video service providers worldwide to identify audio volume issues in programming and commercials. Detecting the problem allows the provider to quickly fix the dramatic volume changes that have irritated viewers for decades and that are now subject to Government regulatory compliance requirements.

“Being shortlisted for a coveted Cable & Satellite Product of the Year is further acknowledgement of the value Sentry offers to our customers, particularly as these awards recognize achievement and innovation on an international scale,” said Eric Conley, Vice President, Video Network Monitoring, Tektronix. “Our success with Sentry in the U.S., which includes deployments with nine out of the top 10 largest U.S. cable television operators, has been further validated by our achievements globally as we continue to expand our products worldwide.”

Sentry’s loudness monitoring capability is particularly ideal for cable, satellite and telecom providers who deliver hundreds of channels but want to avoid the cost or complexity of deploying, configuring and managing hundreds of individual volume monitors. Sentry is uniquely capable of continually monitoring hundreds of programs, making it the only scalable solution for cost-effectively identifying and tracking commercial and program loudness issues on the market today.

Cable & Satellite International launched the Product of the Year awards in 2003 and have attracted over 160 entries every year, gaining the endorsement of the industry’s leading technology suppliers. This year’s winners will be announced at the award ceremony held at IBC on Friday, September 10 at 6 p.m.

Canadian Telecommunications Provider Selects Sentry to Ensure Optimal
Viewing Experience for Subscribers

BEAVERTON, Ore., – July 20, 2010 – Tektronix, the leading provider of digital content monitoring solutions, today announced that its Sentry® digital content monitoring solution – part of the recent acquisition of Mixed Signals Inc. – has been selected by Videotron, an integrated communications company engaged in cable television, interactive multimedia development, Internet access services, cable telephony and wireless telephone service. The solution will help ensure a superior viewing experience for Videotron subscribers.

“Videotron has a well-deserved reputation in the industry for both technical excellence and for its unswerving commitment to quality,” said Eric Conley, Vice President, Video Network Monitoring, Tektronix. “With the addition of Videotron, we continue to see the same rapid shift toward the Mixed Signals family of products from Tektronix in Canada that we have seen in the U.S., where nine of the 10 largest operators extensively use Tektronix monitoring solutions.”

After conducting an extensive evaluation of competing solutions, Videotron chose the Tektronix Sentry solution because of its ability to monitor their video quality and application carousels flawlessly, identifying and diagnosing service-affecting errors before they reach the subscriber. Sentry utilizes innovative technology, like its advanced deep packet inspection, to continually dive deep into all the video programs flowing through a network to spot problems at the IP and MPEG layers, leaving no video or audio error undetected. Another key factor in Videotron selecting Sentry is its unique tru2way™ monitoring capabilities which dramatically simplify data delivery to set-top boxes via tru2way and other carousels.

“We chose the Tektronix Sentry offering to ensure continued delivery of programming with the exceptional picture and sound quality our subscribers have come to expect from Videotron,” said Alain Boissonnault, Senior Director of Digital Video Development for Videotron. “As we expand our offerings with more HD programming and other advanced services, the chances for video and audio errors to occur grows, but with Sentry, we will be able to comprehensively monitor our content to catch and rectify errors quickly and with minimum fuss.”

With its testing complete, Videotron will begin its initial deployments of Sentry in its master headend in Montreal this summer. Sentry will be used to monitor programs as they are aggregated at the headend and prior to distribution to markets served by the master headend. In this manner, Videotron will be able to identify video and audio errors that are already within the programming as it is received at the headend, as well as errors that are introduced when the programming is groomed, multiplexed, rate shaped and otherwise processed before being delivered to subscribers.

Sentry Recognized for Outstanding Innovation Second Year in a Row

BEAVERTON, Ore., July 12, 2010 – Tektronix, the leading provider of digital content monitoring solutions, today announced that its Sentry® digital content monitoring solution, part of its Mixed Signals family of products, has won the Technology Marketing Corporation’s (TMC) 2009 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award for the second year running. The Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award recognizes the vision, leadership, and thoroughness that are characteristics of the prestigious award.

“Tektronix has been recognized with a 2009 Product of the Year Award for their admirable efforts in the advancement of video communications,” said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. “Sentry has shown benefits for its customers and provides ROI for the companies that use it. Congratulations to the entire team at Tektronix. I look forward to more innovative solutions from them in the coming year.”

Sentry was honored in particular this year for its upgraded audio monitoring capabilities that enable video service providers to measure the loudness of TV commercials and programs in real time. This upgrade has proven particularly important this year as Sentry is the only scalable and cost-effective monitoring solution that addresses the requirements of the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act. The CALM Act would require video service providers to ensure that commercials be no louder than the programs they accompany. The CALM Act has been passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate Commerce Committee, and is currently with the full U.S. Senate where passage is expected.

“Winning TMC’s Product of the Year award for the second consecutive year really speaks to the continued commitment to product innovation that our team strives to maintain,” said Eric Conley, Vice President, Video Network Monitoring, Tektronix. “Sentry’s success is measured not only by the many prestigious industry awards it has received, but also by our customers’ satisfaction with using Sentry to ensure the picture and sound quality of their video services. With nine of the nation’s 10 largest cable television operators as customers, we remain market leaders and more committed than ever to keeping our monitoring solutions on the cutting edge.”

The Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award recognizes the most innovative products and services brought to market from March 2008 through March 2009. The 2009 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award winners are published on the INTERNET TELEPHONY and Customer Interaction Solutions Web site.

Sentry Honored in Measurement and Control Instruments Category

BEAVERTON, Ore., June 16, 2010 – Tektronix , the leading provider of digital content monitoring solutions, today announced that its Sentry® digital content monitoring solution, part of its Mixed Signals family of products, has been named a finalist in the Measurement and Control Instruments category for the American Technology Awards, which bestows the only “Best Of” awards that recognize all technology products and services for the technology industry.

Nominations for The American Technology Awards “The Termans” are vetted by industry experts and technology companies. These awards have been named after Frederick Terman, who is widely credited as being the father of Silicon Valley. The winners will be announced on June 16 at TechAmerica Foundation’s Eighth Annual Technology and Government Dinner which has been a premier Washington, D.C. networking event bringing hundreds of industry, congressional and government leaders together at one venue to celebrate the partnership between industry and government.

“We had a lot of nominations for these prestigious awards, and we congratulate Tektronix for rising to the finalist ranks,” said David C. Thomas, TechAmerica’s executive vice president, commercial development. “TechAmerica Foundation is excited to highlight Tektronix, as it continues to influence technology development throughout the rest of the world.”

Sentry has earned multiple industry awards since 2009, due in large part to its advanced capabilities that enable video service providers to detect and diagnose video and audio errors that can ruin viewers’ Quality of Experience (QoE). Sentry utilizes advanced deep packet inspection (DPI) technologies to continually dive deep into all the video programs flowing through a network to spot problems at the IP and MPEG layers, enabling video service providers to identify and repair errors before they ever affect the subscribers’ viewing experience.

“We are committed to driving innovation across our product offerings to ensure we meet our customers’ evolving needs, and having Sentry named as a finalist for an American Technology Award shows that the industry recognizes our commitment,” said Eric Conley, Vice President, Video Network Monitoring, Tektronix. “Our customers also recognize that we are keeping Sentry on the cutting edge, with nine of the nation’s 10 largest cable television operators using Sentry to ensure the picture and sound quality of their video services.”
